Wood Types

All-Heart Redwood comes from the center of the tree and is characterized by a deep, rich reddish brown color and a dramatic grain. The heart has natural beauty and texture without a finish and over time the appearance improves as it takes on a deeper luster. Most other woods need stain and finishes to bring out their character. All-heart Redwood is naturally resistant to rot and mildew which has made it the wood of choice for fine wine cellars for over a century. Redwood unlike cedar has no aroma that can invade the wine through the cork. Premium Clear Redwood has a variety of colors from white to pink to dark purple swirled and streaked together. Many customers find this exotic color variation adds character to their wine cellar. Although it lacks the resistance to decay possessed by all-heart, Premium Clear Redwood functions admirably in climatically controlled wine cellars, which maintain the desired humidity levels of 50 to 75 percent. Premium Clear Redwood is also beautiful without the need for a finish and is non-aromatic. In Redwood, all tabletops and panel racking styles feature solid wood construction. This detail of quality is acheived through gluing multiple redwood boards edge to edge. The moldings are routed into the solid redwood panels rather than added on to veneered plywood. Stain Options Although redwood has natural beauty without finishing, some customers have added our hand rubbed oil finishes to match their décor. Mahogany is another exotic wood we specialize in. Although we sell Mahogany unfinished, our specially formulated stain brings out the classic beauty of Mahogany. Mahogany shares with all-heart redwood the natural resistance to decay and mildew. Table tops and solid panel racking are constructed from a combination of veneered plywood with solid wood trim. All featured with a natural oil finish to bring out their beauty! Maple A maple is a light wood with a bright distinctive grain pattern and contemporary look. Red Oak America's most prolific hardwood comes alive with a dash of oil finish. Black Walnut Dark, bold, earthy in color, Black Walnut has been used in fine cabinetry for ages. For a contemporary look, black walnut trim on Maple is very dramatic. Padauk Unfinished Padauk as shown here is orange in color. Finished with a natural oil the orange takes on a hint of red. A distinguishing feature of Padauk is a very open grain pattern. Purple Heart This wood's pure purple color offers a truly distinctive appearance. Bloodwood Bloodwood has a vibrant, deep red color which is truly exotic. Cherry Extensively used in fine furniture, cherry needs no introduction. This sample has a clear oil finish. It is also offered in a traditional red oil finish. Jarrah Jarrah is a fine-grained wood with a nutty brown color.
